To position FitGrid more effectively, I analyzed five of the top fitness coaching apps, and examined their features, organization, and the pain points and preferences of both clients and coaches.

The competitive analysis highlighted opportunities for FitGrid to stand out by addressing common gaps, such as offering easily customizable workout programs and intuitive dashboards for clients and coaches.

Key Takeaways

My Focus

To begin my journey of making FitGrid the best all-in-one fitness app for personal trainers and clients, I decided to focus on three issues I wanted to solve.

1. Trainer Dashboard

Through my research, I found that trainers appreciate when fitness apps acknowledge that they are a business, and treat them as such. The FitGrid dashboard was designed to give trainers a tool to stay organized and on top of their daily responsibilities upon entering the app.

Rather than focusing solely on client information, the dashboard acts as a central hub for trainers to manage their own tasks and schedules.

Trainer Management Systems

This screencast demonstrates what a trainer would see upon opening the FitGrid app. It shows their management dashboard complete with client names and time constraints they may have committed to. From here, they have the choice to navigate to their client pool or onboard a new client.

2. Boosting Client Motivation through Gamification

To foster a stronger sense of motivation and accountability among clients, FitGrid incorporates gamified elements in the form of a customizable BINGO board.

Clients complete tasks or exercises throughout the day, marking them off on their BINGO cards, which are then sent back to their trainers for review. This playful approach not only encourages consistent participation but also adds an element of fun to fitness routines, making workouts feel less like a chore and more like an engaging challenge.

Gamification Boosts Client Motivation

As the client completes their tasks, they flip their BINGO tiles until all tasks have been finished. They are then told their board has been sent to their trainer for viewing.

3. Program Personalization and Usability

Program Personalization

Trainers can easily design their clients' BINGO boards, customizing elements such as how often the tile will appear in their program, which days it will appear, and the type of goal it is.

I chose to emphasize personalization because cookie-cutter fitness programs often fail to address the diverse needs of clients, leading to disengagement. To address this issue, FitGrid allows clients to handpick their clients goals and design their clients' program tile by tile.

This approach ensures that workouts align with individual fitness objectives and preferences, making the program feel uniquely crafted for each client.

Low - Fidelity Wireframes

At the beginning of my design process, I sketched Low-Fidelity wireframes to understand specific user flows from a trainer's point of view.
